Stranger Things continues to thrill Netflix
Stranger Things has set yet another record for Netflix, becoming the highest-rated streaming series in one week ever across the U.S., according to data from data company Nielsen. In Nielsens latest streaming top 10, covering the week from May 30 through June 5, the retro sci-fi series amassed 7.2 billion minutes of viewing across its 32 episodes across its four seasons, marking its highest total since Nielsen began measuring streaming audiences in 2020. Up until this point, only Netflixs The Lion King and Ozark had ever amassed more than 5bn minutes in one week.
The first seven episodes of the Stranger Things series four were made available May 27, and a two-part Volume Two episode of the series launches this Friday (July 1). A month earlier, Netflix announced volume one of the series had topped its ratings charts across 83 countries, marking the platforms biggest opening weekend yet for an English-language TV show, clocking in at 286.79 million hours watched. Even before the final two episodes dropped, “Stranger Things 4” was already sitting on top of the streaming services all-time single-season viewing record for an English-language series, clocking more than 930m hours watched over its first 28 days of availability. Bridgerton Season 2 was a distant second, at 656m hours over 28 days. Nielsens streaming charts through June 5 also showed that the first three episodes of Star Wars spinoff Obi-Wan Kenobi had accumulated 958m minutes of viewing, setting a record weekend premiere on Disney+.
